hey,
hey there,
i have returned to vox but i don't know that anyone will remember me.
i have recently become addicted to facebook because it doesn't demand a lot of attention; quick sentences for the short attention span phase i have been going through.
the problem with it though is that i can't rant like i can on here. everyone knows everyone personally, face to face, on facebook and that can make it harder to express random thoughts.
i don't know. that's my random thought for today.
searching for an outlet once again, and i think vox gave me that months ago.
i had to go off the zyban and life hasn't been that swell for me lately. but things are looking up and i shall return to vox land one day.
just taking a time out i guess.
these are photos of my sister and i, we've been going to the country to visit our dad a lot these days. getting out of the city has been good for me...fresh country air. i can't wait for winter to be over. let spring arrive please!
hope everyone is well. i do miss vox...
I didn't sleep at all the night before. This was my first shoot for The Coast, the weekly arts and life newspaper of metro Halifax. It didn't go as well as I wanted it too due to nerves and lack of sleep - I got WAY too worked up about the whole thing. I have to learn how to relax. I should practise meditation or something. The art director said there was one he could use...I'm hoping that means he was okay with what I did and will hire me again. I have been so use to helping/assisting other photographers, that I have been out of practise myself.
So, we shall see which one is in this Thursday's Coast. I actually won't be in town on Thursday to see it right away. Going away to New Brunswick on a photo scouting trip...better buy some long underwear, it's in the middle of nowhere. Brrrrr.
As long as I have a something to do in photography every week, even if just one job, I'm doing good.
Maybe I'll practise with my new camera gear? Oh ya and here's my new mullet. I took these earlier this morning before my outdoor adventures. I think I'll try some with my new flash accessories and compare - of course available light always kicks ass but we'll see what I can do.
I like the natural hard light coming in through the cafe window. Speaking of light ~
I'm getting a lighting kit as soon as I decide which one to get. It'll be my first one (virgin)...belonging to just me. I've worked with quite a few different kits over the years and the one I really love, Profoto, is way too expensive.
I want to be wireless (pocket wizards) and portable. Speedotrons are not very easy to take on location...There are others I've looked at but since I'm able to join this photography group, I thought perhaps someone may have some advise on buying the first lighting kit.
Tomorrow I am also going to start planning my new website. I have one but it's from a year and a half ago. I need to add weddings and recent work, other clients and a resume (now that I have a much better one) to it. I'm still probably going to design it in Flash, as oppose to Dreamweaver, but I'm going to get rid of the text and I'm not sure if I should change the design layout? I'll probably spend the day looking at other photo websites and
The problem with my banners is that there isn't enough room on the left for the user ID photo and name in some cases. And of course probably no room for a quote. I suppose I'll have to go out and take some photos specifically for vox banners because that's the kind of geek I am. (Or vox addict, I haven't decided yet). A combination of both...addict and perfectionist. Addicted to perfection. Perfect addict. Perfectly addicted. I'll share them anyway considering I spent a lot of time on them - which I throughly enjoyed because I prefer to mess around with photographs than do anything else...well there are other things.
Apparently, I have been tagged, along with 5 other victims, by Sara. I'm suppose to share 5 things that no one knows about me (in vox land...which could be anything!) and tag 5 other unsuspecting people...I'll try to make it interesting:
1. I dropped out of university after completing one year, traveled around Europe and never returned to school. I finally went back to school when I was 29 to study photography. I'm basically starting a new career in my 30's.
2. An ex-boyfriend of mine sold my pick up truck for a bag of weed while I was away visiting my parents in PEI (this was when I lived in BC). The truck was by no means awesome, hell the clutch was broken and it was basically dead but still - my dad gave me that truck! When I got back it was gone and then so was he.
3. I have moved 19 times and lived in 3 different provinces in 9 different cities/towns/villages (and in the country).
No, my dad wasn't in the military.
4. My friends from BC bought me a tattoo as a going away present before I moved to Nova Scotia. I didn't really want to get a tattoo, at that point, but felt (pressured) I may offend them if I didn't. It was impulsive and I got it on my back so I don't have to see it all the time.
5. My name is from latvian origins, not french. I thought it was french until I met my maternal grandfather again when I was in my late teens. (My parents divorced when I was 7 and my sister and I went with my dad). He stopped in BC, after visiting Latvia and I learned from him that I was named after his mother. And - my last name is hyphenated, not because I married (which is what most people think). It was actually hyphenated in 15th century England when the two families didn't want to merge the two estates. Greedy buggers. But hip before their time I'd say!
oh and if I had a number 6...it would be that I cried at tonight's episode of Grey's Anatomy. Seriously, I haven't cried to a TV show or movie in a LONG time. Man oh man, that was a wonderfully acted episode. I want to talk about it but don't want to spoil anything incase someone hasn't seen it yet!
That's it. There you have it, 5 things you never knew about me. It's my turn to tag 5 people ~
I cheated, I put 6 people. Oops...will something bad happen to me now?
Of course no one needs to do it...just a crazy little vox chain letter thingy.
